Walnut Creek Village, Wednesday 10:30 A.M, March 1st, 2017
The Walnut Creek Village will be launched in 2017 and the founders will present their concept to the members of the Volunteer Exchange Program on Wednesday, March 1st, at 10:30 am in the Fireside Room at the Gateway Clubhouse. The Co-founders, Patsy Barich, Terry Goss and Howard Meadow will discuss the origins of the Village Movement, Village trends in California and the Bay Area today and why Walnut Creek, in particular, can benefit from having a local Village in operation. Villages are member-supported, non-profit, locally based networks that provide independent living resources, referrals and community connection and activities for those who choose to remain in their own homes. Currently there are 190 villages nationwide with 185 more in development.
*******************
The VEP recruits volunteers who can assist other residents with a variety of needs, such as transportation, personal, pet and plant care, meal assistance, social visiting, exercise, etc. Volunteering allows members to log volunteer hours that can then be exchanged for services for yourself should you need them in the future. It is not an emergency service and is available to members only. Membership is open to men and women of Rossmoor. Membership dues are $15 annually. No additional charges are made except for reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses such as gas and parking.
