- There is a 25 hour limit to negative hours. Once someone has reached this limit, they will not be allowed to request additional services until their account balance is positive.
- When accepting an assignment, write down all the specifics. Make sure that the recipient has your phone number and that you have theirs. It is recommended that you re-confirm with the recipient the day before you are needed.
- Avoid last minute requests for service. Allow at least 3 days lead time. If you must cancel or change a service request, do so with as much lead time as possible.
- Sorry but, for insurance reasons, the exchange of services can only happen between members. Caregivers, friends, or family members can not come with you when you are being transported.
- Do not bring friends or family members with you when you are providing a service.
- We encourage you to reimburse a driver for gas costs, as well as for parking or bridge tolls, if any. Other than that, no money changes hands. Volunteers are not allowed to ask for money. Any reports of “hinting” will cause the provider to be removed from all future provider lists.
- Do not provide financial advice or write checks for other members.
- Do not give medications to other members or give advice on any medical matter.
- Do not agree to lift, toilet, or bathe another member. Those service require paid providers with the proper insurance coverage. Do not lift heavy objects or agree to do anything else that you are uncomfortable with. Remember: If you do so, you are fully liable.
- Do not pressure another member to accept your religious beliefs or political viewpoints.
- Please maintain the confidentiality of other members.
- Keep track of all of the credit hours that you earn on a time sheet. You must log everything that you do. The only exception is your attendance at the monthly meeting. Because you sign in when you first arrive at the monthly meeting, you will get credit for being there automatically.
- You can turn in your time sheet at a monthly meeting. You can also put it in the club mailbox at Gateway. Try to turn in your time sheet within a month of providing the service. Do not wait longer than 3 months or you may not be given credit.
